It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the Box Critters team about the upcoming beta test, so I wanted to get an idea of what to expect. My guess for the start of the beta test was Early 2023, at least by April, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
This means we’ve got a lot of waiting to do before finally being able to play the game again. Last we heard from the Box Critters Twitter, they were primarily looking for a partner — like how Club Penguin was on Miniclip.
One thing we do know is that Box Critters will be available on mobile.
With that said, that was all last year. What are they working on now? Well, according to Rocketsnail, the team is currently working on monetization and how players work together.
Some time before that, Rocketsnail was working on design documents for the game.
Beyond that, it’s pretty much crickets. I understand Rocketsnail wants to get this right, but it’s honestly kinda frustrating to receive no word on what’s going on. After all, “Success comes from collaborating with your community”.
All in all, there really isn’t much else to see here. I’m sure that what they’re working on over there is some exciting stuff, but it’s hard to stay hyped up when we’re left out of the loop, and there’s nothing to check out in the meantime. There’s not even an official Discord chat, like what Party Parrot World has.
Although Club Penguin took five years to complete, Penguin Chat had been available during all that time, and he hyped up the Penguin Chat BIG Update just before the beta test. The BIG update was announced June 17, 2005. The first teaser was posted June 30, 2005. New teasers were shared regularly, at least once a week. The name “Club Penguin” was announced August 22, 2005, along with the start of the beta test itself, before the game was finally launched October 24, 2005. How much of Club Penguin was finished when the BIG update was first announced?
With all that being said, I think it’s time for me to consider ideas on what to post on this website while we wait for the Box Critters Beta Test to officially launch. Did you know the first experiment launched February 8, 2019? I was there! It was literally just a chat room with a bunch of hamsters in the Tavern.
For now, I’d recommend joining the Moose and Polo Discord, as they have a Box Critters channel. In addition, Party Parrot World is also worth watching!
I can’t wait to see what the future holds, but until then — Stay Safe, and Keep Exploring!
